Second Week of Advent “Peace”
Isaiah 9:6-7
Today we celebrate week two of the Advent season. Week two is peace.
Week one was hope and Eric, thank you for delivering the message.
It was excellent.
The term Advent means arrival. As Christians, we celebrate the Messiah coming as a babe in the Manger and with great anticipation, we look forward to his coming again in the clouds to call his people to him and our heavenly home into his triumphant return to rule and reign upon this earth. And his and our entrance into the Eternal Kingdom.
Thus, our recognition of the four weekly parts of the celebration in anticipation of hope, peace, love, and joy of the first arrival in the soon coming of the Messiah's return, or what we refer to as his second Advent.
The prophets of old laid the groundwork for the coming of the Lord's First Advent.
And Jehovah's promise to Israel's patriarchs on the second advent of the greatest of their future offspring.
On the former: I believe that Isaiah was not only the first of the major prophets but that Holy Spirit used him to reveal the greatest information on the 1st and 2nd Advent.
Isaiah 7: 14. First Advent prophecy:
“I therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign, The Virgin shall conceive and give birth to a Son, and will call him Emmanuel.”
It's fulfillment.
Luke 1:25
“The Angel answered. “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the most high will overshadow you. So, the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.”
Matthew 1: 23.
“Behold a virgin shall be with child and bear a Son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel. Which is translated as, God with us.”
Luke 2: 10-11
“And the Angel said unto them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good tidings, for of great joy, which shall be for all people, for unto you is born this day in the city of David A Savior, which is Christ the Lord.”
John 1: 14
“And the word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, and we behold His glory, the glory of the only begotten Son of God.”
The prophecy brought hope for God's people in bondage who had lost hope.
The fulfillment gave not just hope, but peace in the fact that the Messiah had come.
God's people would reject their Messiah because he had come to save his people from their sins and set. Them spiritually free, they believed he had come to set them physically free by breaking the yoke of their sovereign Caesar.
What is a tremendous error in judgment?
Jesus came as the hope of all creation, God. God’s and the world's people chose bitterness.
Jesus came to bring peace., God's people in this world chose fear and chaos instead.
Our Lord meant every single qualification of whom the Messiah was, Yet he was rejected.
Even down to his place of birth.
Micah 5:2
“But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.”
God's promise to the patriarchs of Israel.
The Abrahamic Convent: Prophecy.
“Jehovah promised Abram, then change to Abraham that he would have many descendants and become a great nation. And that through his seed all the nations of the world would be blessed.”
This promise was handed down to Abraham‘s son and grandson.
Isaac and Jacob.
God's promise to David or through David. The cabinet that one of his Patriots and kinsman, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob seed will become the blessing promised to them. To all the people.
This seed would fulfill every component promised to the Patriarchs.
Short Term – Solomon and the earthly temple.
Long Term – Jesus the Everlasting King and heavenly Tabernacle.
Luke 1:32-33
“He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:
33 And he shall reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom, there shall be no end.”
Matthew 1:15-16And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus
And Eliud begat Eleazar, and Eleazar begat Matthan; and Matthan begat Jacob;
And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.
Wow! What hope and what piece this brings to know that God's promises and covenants have and are unconditional with Amazing Grace open made flesh among us. And we believe in his glory, the glory of the only begotten Son of god full of grace and truth.
John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life
So, that we could have hope so that we can have peace that surpasses our own understanding.
What great hope and peace we truly can have to know.
That yes, a native son of the Israelite Nation, the only begotten Son of God was gifted to us to save us from our sins.
A son was born, and a Son was given.
And the word was the lost hope of God’s people, the lost hope of this world will find restoration.
The peace that has alluded God’s people. This world and even some of us will be discarded and never experience again.
Jesus himself gave us and spoke assurance about real peace in our lives.
Matthew 11:28
“Come to me, all you who are weary and heavy laden, and I will give you peace”
John 14:27
“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
The Apostle Paul
2 Thessalonians 3:6
“Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received of us.”
Colossian 3:15a
“And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.”
Philippians 8:7
“And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
Romans 14:17
“For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink, but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.”
The Angelic Host.
Peace on Earth God’s goodwill toward all mankind.
