The Nature and Exploits of Angels and Demons

Isaiah 14:12-16

Psalm 91:9-11

These two texts are two of over 350 times that angelic beings are mentioned in scripture. It doesn’t take more than a momentary glance to see that 2 different type of entities are being spoken of.

They are known as the heavenly or angelic host and the fallen angels or demons. Both are real, both are spirit beings. The angelic host are called benevolent beings the demonic  are called malevolent beings.

Benevolent means “well meaning” while malevolent means “a wish to do evil to others.”

Both type of spirit beings have the capabilities of moving from the transcendent and temporal  realms.

Who created the beings called angels or Gods messengers?

Jesus did. Colossians 1:16

“For by him were all things created, that are in heaven and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions or principalities, or powers, all things were created by him, and for him.”

These were beings however, Christ created in eternity past or prior to Genesis 1:1.

Or what is called in eternity past.

They were created before the foundations of the earth as described by Jehovah in a chastisement of Job in chapter 38:4-7

“Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth? Tell me if you have understanding. Who determined its measurements, surely you know! Or who stretched a line upon it? On what were its basis sunk? Or who laid its cornerstone?

When the morning stars sang together and all the sons of God shouted for joy.”

The angelic host are also called Morning Stars and sons of God.

Jesus referred to a war that occurred and John referenced in Revelation 12: 3&4 John relates that the Great Dragon or Satan took 1/3 of the heavenly host and they cast to the earth.

In Luke 10:18 And he said unto them. “And I beheld Satan as lightening fall from heaven.”

This indicates that the event of Rev. 12: 3&4 was a reference to something that had already occurred. When one looks at Revelation 12:7-9 another war in heaven is ahead in time. I will be referring to this at a later part of the message.

There was a key figure that was the centerpiece of the division of the original heavenly host. He was the greatest of Christ’s creation of the angels and his name was Lucifer.

We read in our opening text of his 5 fateful declared “I will” and God the Father called him out on it. This was caused by his heart becoming consumed by pride because of his great beauty. He was impressive, let’s turn to Ezekiel chapter 28 to get a description of this Angel called Lucifer.

He was perfect in beauty, he was bejeweled with 10 distinct precious gems, he had been sent to the garden of Eden (This is not as the Serpent) so is it possible that he was the original caretaker of the Garden? Could this be why he used the terms in Isaiah as if he was looking upward?

Remember what he said.

I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God, I will also sit upon the Mount of the congregation (Gods throne), in the sides of the north, I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the most high!

Could this have been the core reason for his rebellion. He was the chief of the Cherubims he walked upon and down upon the stones of fire protecting the throne room of God. He was but a step below the Arch Angel Michael in heavens authority order.

If for whatever reason he was sent to the Garden could he have stewed about it and finally because of his great power and beauty believed he deserved better?

Ezekiel continued that from his creation he was perfect in beauty, but he sinned in letting heart become prideful I believe he was also guilty of arrogance, jealousy and greed.

Lucifer failed his Creator, Jesus never failed him. This magnificent specimen of creation somehow convinced perhaps millions of other angels that he was a better choice to be their sovereign and Lord. He failed them. They failed Jesus too.

And then the rebellion. We spoke of earlier. It’s what Jesus saw as sitting at the right hand of God the Father. He saw Satan and 1/3 of his creation being cast from their abiding place in heaven. As fast as lightening.

According to Job 1: 6&7

Now there was day when the “sons of God” came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan came also among them. And the Lord said unto Satan, whence are you coming from? Then Satan answered the Lord and said “ From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.”
