Where Everyone Is Someone

August 2022 Newsletter

We are sitting at the precipice of school once again. Where oh where has the summer gone? Time just doesn't wait for anything, for any reason nor for anyone. Being very serious, My heart goes out to today’s kids and the mountain of things that they are dealing with. They are having to deal with many things that most of us in our school days maybe didn't even know existed! Especially with life matters in general. Please pray for our children to stand strong against the world, indoctrination attempts from liberal schools’ boards, teachers, professors, and peers that will attempt to convince them that their faith is their problem and that the worlds sins are their solution. Please pray for their protection from bullies, others who would attempt to do them bodily harm. Our kids need our prayers and frankly our patience too. Also, be lifting up Christian Schools, Christian educators, support staff because they are under great pressure as well to capitulate to those who have ill will in mind. As annual tradition expects the last Sunday of August I will gather the kids, school staff etc. at the altar and myself and the Elders will offer words of encouragement and prayers on their behalf.

We Have a Firm Foundation

Our foundation is firm in God. As the hymn “How Firm a Foundation” says: “His Word is our foundation.” The first two lines of the hymn reveal this: “How firm a foundation, ye saints of the Lord, is laid for your faith in His excellent Word.” Knowing our foundation is sure in Christ, we can live our life in total confidence of our faith. That helps me to always feel strong and able as I go about my day because I am strong in Christ. There are accounts of this hymn being sung on Christmas morning during the Spanish-American war, both the Northern and Southern soldiers singing together. It was also sung around the bedside of President Andrew Jackson and at the funerals of Robert E. Lee and Theodore Roosevelt. The last verse of this great hymn should be steadfast in our mind and heart: “The soul that on Jesus doth lean for repose, I will not, I will not desert to his foes; That soul, though all hell should endeavor to shake, I’ll never, no never, no never forsake.”

Kenneth W. Osbeck said this in his devotion book “Amazing Grace”: “A believer’s stability in this life, as well as his confidence for eternity, rests solely on the written promises of God’s Word. The direction of the living God for our lives is very definite. It is found in a firm foundation—the written revelation: “Thus, saith the Lord.”

Another great hymn that shares about our firm foundation is “The Church’s One Foundation,” the first line reading: His life is about giving for God, remembering once going before the Trustees and saying, “We have too much money in the treasury. We need to do something with it.” Continuing, Randy said, “RIC has always

been a giving church, helping the needy and helping missionaries. God has worked in this church in a mighty, mighty way.” Randy, and his wife, Sandi enjoys taking drives and enjoying the scenery. He loves looking at clouds, “Clouds can make you smile,” he said. When we were leaving the building together, he quickly pointed

out the different shades of green in the trees across from the church. Nature is awesome, and Randy appreciates God’s creation. He is not ashamed when tears fill his eyes as he talks about people who have made an important difference in his life. We can all be thankful for folks like Randy who share words of wisdom to help us as we grow in our faith. The simple words of the hymn,” Jesus Loves Me” is the one that Randy loves most.

Elder Bio:

Randy Alderton has served in most every area of church life since he was a boy. He chairs the Elder Board at RIC. His heart is a giving one. He has cherished memories of Christian men and women, one of which was his mother-in-law, who were great influences in his life with words spoken at just the right time. He was saved as a teenager. He was raised in church along with his five brothers. He began farming when he was in the 4th grade. His family had a mine pony they used for cultivating their garden, plowing snow, using a cart, etc. He and his brothers helped neighbors farm through the years. Randy started working in a meat market and he’s been doing that ever since. After working for one man for 25 years, he built his own shop and has been serving there. He helps with meals for fellowship events and cutting meat for hunters. The old hymn “How Great Thou Art” is a special hymn to Randy who said, “There’s so much in it.” He especially likes the well-known Scripture: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life,” John 3:16. A minister once told him, “When Jesus comes into your heart it is miraculous, the Holy Spirit speaks to you and starts cleaning up the rooms in your life, one room at a time. This continues through all of your life.” Those words stuck with Randy.
